Photographers love to hear, “I just want to capture her at this age. I can’t get any good pictures of her because she moves so fast. I was hoping you could just take some pictures that document our day to day lives for her birthday.” You don’t need a perfect over-the-mantle shiny happy picture? I get to do a session that just comfortably focuses on one extremely spirited but unbelievably well-behaved & adorable kiddo?
As I’m trying to cultivate my own personal style and learn the art of lifestyle photography, I’m trying to focus on documenting the details and capturing emotion and telling stories. It was all so easy and fun for this session.
I have a kid almost exactly this same and she has yet to focus on a book like this kid does. She’s smart as a tack!

Love that we caught the blankey in there.

These next two are my faves. I love the sweet expression on her face here & that we can see the whole chair for scale & remember how little she really is…
You want to kiss her right on the lips, don’t you?

Her spot. Where she reads and plays and listens to music and takes in the occasional show.
Encore! Can’t wait to do a session with the whole family!
This whole session was indoors. We moved around the house to different familiar spots and found pockets of light. I know shooting outside allows for more versatility but I hope to at least shoot a little of every session in the client’s home. I think it’s especially important when you’re documenting the moment in your childrens lives to capture their environment.

Kay Pickens - Nancy! I love these. Your lifestyle work is so nice. That is one cute kiddo!
