K Family Photo Session in downtown South Bend

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

We had fun searching for locations and finding some great light in downtown South Bend for the K’s family photos.  It was the baby’s big 1/2 birthday too so she got some special treatment at their house before we headed out.

I love the connection here.  This family is really so sweet and it was fun to watch their little interactions:

Little E had such a fabulous imagination!  I played right along with him when he said he saw a yellow mouse & he played right along with me when I told him I had a butterfly in my camera.  I think he sees it, don’t you?

The 1/2 birthday girl, Miss A!  She’s as sweet as they come.  This setup is a little more traditional that I’ve been doing lately but it was fun to capture her six-month-oldness in all its smooshy goodness without any other distraction.

I mean really.  They  make looking good look easy, don’t they?

To say E was in to the “ready set go” is an understatement!  And I definitely want to do more sessions downtown…who’s next?

Meet me at Krispy Kreme!

Announcing Krispy Kreme Fridays!

It’s summer.  Let’s have donuts.

Watch the NLS Facebook page … I’ll be hitting KK with my kids from time to time on Friday mornings this summer.  I mean, three kids all summer long …we’ll need donuts and coffee by the end of the week, right?  I’ll announce it on facebook by Thursday afternoon if we’re going to be there and give an approximate time.

We’ll stay for an hour or so & I’ll take a few shots of each kid that comes.  I’ll share them on facebook and upload for printing 8 x 10’s and smaller at a discounted price.  It’s just for fun…an excuse for us to eat donuts and take pics!  We won’t do a lot of cute outfit, perfect-posey, siblings together stuff.  So if you’re standing behind me making bird noises and telling Johnny to kiss Susie, I’ll politely remind you that you have coffee getting cold…over there…at your table.  Just fun shots with great light and sugar highs.

Ballerina Playdate

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

Sometimes it’s fun to be the one with the camera.  Really, really fun.  I caught this one of our dear ballet friend the other day.  She’s a beautiful girl & I was so happy to have been the one with the camera at that moment.

Ah I just love this shot!  I captured a really sweet smile but it’s still playful and natural.  The thing is…when I like a picture, I always want to just try it in black and white.  And then I almost always prefer the black and white version over the color.  There are times I turn the color off when I’m taking pictures of my own kids just so I don’t have to choose.

Which one do you like better?

Granger photography session with the M children

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

Michelle came to me through a dear friend.  This was big for me because she’d seen my work and wanted me to photograph her kids in my style.  In our first conversation, she mentioned several shots she had seen that really exemplify the type of lifestyle photography I want to be able to do for families.  So we hung out, acted like clowns for the kids, rearranged some furniture and even resorted to raiding big brother’s bedroom as a treat!  It’s obvious that these parents truly enjoy and appreciate their kids.  I think whether you’re just starting out as a photographer like I am or if you’ve been at it for a million years, it’s an honor to capture children in their home and just being kids.

K will be able to look back on this picture in twenty years and remember the chair she sat in with her parents to read bedtime stories…

When I first started learning about photography, I took a lot of extreme closeups of my kids.  I felt like that’s what I wanted to remember…what I saw when I was close enough to give them a kiss…
